Student Special Assistance Fund Program

The Student Special Assistance Fund Program was created over 50 years ago to address the immediate needs of students who attend Chicago’s public schools (CPS). Over 80 percent of CPS students are from low-income families and over 20,000 students attending CPS are homeless. In an effort to help reduce the degradation brought on by a lack of basic necessities, CPS teachers identify students who require eyeglasses, hearing aids, and clothing and submit an application for resources.

The Children & Teachers Foundation of the Chicago Teachers Union through its Student Special Assistance Fund currently disburses approximately $50,000 per year from this fund to help meet the needs of CPS students. Contributions assist the Foundation in increasing its support for public school students in need.
